# Get product data

> Request paid access to a market product's research data, check your organization's access, and read the available states.

Product data is a paid offering in the Market Directory. It includes a product's research profiles,
comparison attributes, and associated filings, forms, manuals, and events. Executable
[rating programs](/guides/get-rating-program) are a separate paid offering.

Use an [Effective API key](/getting-started/authentication) to browse products and check access.

## Request access

Contact [sales@effectiveailabs.com](mailto:sales@effectiveailabs.com) for pricing and access to the
products and states you need. Access applies across your organization.

The API checks existing product access; it does not purchase or grant it.
When a response includes `accessUrl`, open that URL to reach your organization's Product access page.

## Check your access

Read the products and states available to your caller:

```bash theme={null}
curl --request GET \
  --url "https://api.canary.effectiveai.app/api/v2/insurance/product-access" \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $EFFECTIVE_API_KEY"
```

Example response:

```json theme={null}
{
  "allProducts": false,
  "products": [{ "productId": "product_6K7Q2ZD", "allStates": false, "states": ["CA", "TX"] }]
}
```

This caller can read that product's data for California and Texas. `allProducts: true` covers
every product and state. A product with `allStates: true` covers every state, including states
added later. Otherwise, `states` lists its available states.

The response normally reflects your organization's access. An API key restricted to all products
or none reports that restriction instead.

See [Get the products you have access to](/api-reference/products/get-the-products-you-have-access-to)
for the response contract.

## Read product data

Every authenticated caller can search products and read their configured state availability.
Detailed product data requires access to the product and, for state-specific reads, that state.

With partial access, product detail has `access.view: "limited"` and names the remaining states in
`access.lockedStates`. Its `attributes` include only claims for accessible states and, with access
to any state, product-wide claims. State availability remains visible.

Reads across states, such as product events and resources, return only accessible states.
An empty field can therefore reflect limited access rather than an absence of recorded data.

[Find product filings and files](/guides/product-resources) shows how to read material by business
class or coverage. The [product reference](/api-reference/products/get-a-product) describes each
operation's access requirements.

## Handle an access error

A protected read without the required product or state access returns `403 product_access_required`.
The response includes `accessUrl`, pointing to the Product access page in your organization's app.

Open that URL or contact sales to request access. Retrying the same request does not change access.

Product access applies to product research. General filing search and other datasets have their
own permissions; purchasing product data does not replace those requirements.
